Drebot Tree Nelson/Sayer Tree Spanier Tree Routes to Canada

Agnes Dedio

Although born in 1902, somewhere in the Carpathian Mountains of Poland, we think Agnes came to Canada through New York.  They left their home because the Bulkin Wars of 1912 and 1913 made living in Eastern Europe uneasy.  In 1913 the family obtained passports that allowed them to travel abroad within one year.  Rumor has it that their initial travel plans might have involved comming on the Titanic, but they ended up making the journey a year later.  They settled into farming in the Edmonton area, and as awpe6.jpg (25970 bytes) young adult Agnes worked at a motel.  She was married to Mike Drebot quite young, possibly when she was 16  or 17.  Agnes’ parents might have arranged her marriage to Mike, as he worked in a respectful position at the Canadian Pacific Railway.
