Mike was born in 1899 in Vienna, Austria.   He grew up in what was the Austria-Hungarian Empire, but later became areas of Poland or the Ukraine.  Mike came to Canada along with his brothers when he was about twenty years old.  As far as we know, Mike came for better (financial?) opportunity.   He married Agnes Dedio, and they had four children together.  He was generally a very social person, and worked in supervisory positions with the CPR.  In the 1920s he worked on building the high level bridge in Edmonton.  Mike enjoyed fishing, and later in life, would often fish the Fraiser river with his wife and Grandson.
